Re: No 3rd Party Toys at Botcon 2012
So.... basically this means that anybody bringing their customs may have them confiscated without warning or compensation.
Also, anyone creating art or selling art based on anything without being officially licensed will also have stuff confiscated without warning or compensation (this would include any IDW artists making sketches at the Con without providing royalties to Hasbro or TakaraTomy in advance), and could also mean any cosplayers could have their costumes confiscated without warning or compensation.
So basically, BotCon is no longer a convention, and is now merely a trade show.

Botcon seems like its an utter mess to me.
If I was a dealer, customizer or artist I would be out.

Re: No 3rd Party Toys at Botcon 2012
While I appreciate Hasbro's right to protect their intelectual property, this seems too extreme. I guess I'll just have less to buy at Botcon and more to spend at TFCon.

Trade shows are fine by me. They can do what they want with it. But a trade show is a completely different entity than a convention.
A trade show is for people within the industry, everything official and whatnot. A convention is for the fans.
Customizers are fans, so are 3rd Party manufacturers (and to a mild extent KO producers making things Hasbro and TakaraTomy never will, or never will again). They're alienating the people that make conventions great.
Also, I just realized that any customizing class (unless ALL of the resulting figures are officially endorsed by Hasbro or TakaraTomy) can result in having the figures confiscated without warning or compensation. And if they are endorsed, basically people are paying money to be part of HasTak's manufacturing process. If not, people are paying money to be allowed to modify a figure and walk away with nothing but memories.

Re: No 3rd Party Toys at Botcon 2012
I have no issue with Hasbro protecting its IP's and not allowing 3rd party items violating that to be sold in thier dealer room.
It's the wording here thats the issue. The idea that they somehow have the right to just take anything that they want from a dealer, no questions asked, no warnings seems a little extreme.
They need vendors more than the vendors likely need them.

Re: No 3rd Party Toys at Botcon 2012
Screw Hasbro and Botcon(fiscate). TFCON is far superior to that mess anyways. I hope that Botcon fails big time and there are huge backlashes from this. Insanely increasing pricing of everything, stolen credit cards, damaged/incomplete exclusive figures, screwing people out of membership figures, planning on stealing from dealers and customers .... WTF is wrong with this group???

Re: No 3rd Party Toys at Botcon 2012
Hmmm... Hope this doesn't happen to TFcon... I'm looking to grab reprolabels and FP insecticons....
You know, if Hasbro doesn't want me to buy a MP devastator, or Mp Coneheads etc from a third party group, I hereby grant them permission to make these figures so I can buy them from them....problem solved

Re: No 3rd Party Toys at Botcon 2012
You can't really blame Hasbro or Takara for doing this. The Transformers are their property, and Botcon is their official toy show. Within that context, banning products made by other companies which clearly infringe on Hasbro and Takara IP's is a justifiable move.
