Are you sure the bottleneck is your router? Does it work if you hard wire it to the modem or is the PC being too slow?

I always thought all routers are the same? They all just send out a signal at the same "power" but wireless N has a wider range. I'm about as tech savy as a donkey but this is what I was always made to believe.

^^ i'm in the same boat. i just bought one i thought was "affordable" but experienced MUCH better while at the fiancees parents house. used a laptop in their kitchen while their router is upstairs in a bedroom and it seemed just flawless... especially compared to what i have at home.

I would suggest a Linksys router, if you need a new one. Do not get DLink, they are absolute garbage!

I've used the same DLink for over 4 years now. I've had to reset it an average of, maybe, once every six months. The signal strength is good...only at the total opposite end of the house do I have an issue.

Re: computer guys help - i need a GOOD wireless router!
If all machines are suffering it can be the router or it can be the modem. Sometimes both are bundled into 1 (such as Bell's 2wire modem/router). Without knowing your config it's hard to conclude where the problem lies. You need to troubleshoot some more (or give more info on your config).
If you are determined to get a new router, when wired, N/G/A/B does not matter. When using wireless N is better than G is better than A/B.
As mentioned above, stay away from Dlink. It's has many issues. I could go on for days about their problems. I've handled several dozens of routers and I will stay away from them whenever I can. I won't even troubleshoot systems with DLink routers. LinkSys is the best but are also expensive. Trendnet makes great routers at a very affordable price.

I'll pile on with the D-Link hatred... avoid them like the plague. Generally I try to stick w/ Linksys products and have never really had a problem with them.

Well... ask them what kinda router they have and get that one. But, before you do that as SMEGs suggests try connecting your internet directly from the modem to one of your computers and see if the same issue persists or not, this should tell you if it is indeed the router or a crappy connection from the modem. In which case you should contact your service provider (assuming it's their modem and not yours).
