Re: PS3 Slim?

If you don't already have one, then I would say jump on it. I would be curious what exactly (if anything) is getting cut from the system for the price drop.

Re: PS3 Slim?

Well, I have the first-gen 40gb model and I have no backwards compatibility and as much as that bothers me, I've been able to move past it.

Hopefully this slim PS3 comes with a decent sized hard drive, but we'll see what happens. If it's going to be anything like what the PS2 slim was, I'll pass. That thing had huge problems with overheating and games skipping because the fan was taken out to convserve space.

Never had any issues with my ps2 slim. Works perfect and it gets soooo used.

PS3 slim...I'd wait to see the specs before going for it.

FFXIII will only be a PS3 exclusive in Japan, if memory serves. It'll be available on 360 here (not sure if it's going to be released at the same time, or later than the PS3 version, though) FFXIV is, as of now, a PS3 console exclusive (though it'll be available on PC).

Ditto. My PS2 slim has clocked a lot of long hours and has held up just fine. There was a problem with the first batch of PS2 and DREs, but it was fixed in later batches.

Don't have the full specs, but I do know that the PS3 slim is going to have a 120GB hard drive, a $299 USD price point, and, of course, blu-ray player included (can't really get rid of it, after all). Still no backwards compatibility with PS2 games (PS1 compatibility should still be fine, though), but they're still working on a purely software based emulation, so if it comes, it should be available for the slim.

Not a bad deal at all (so far). Won't cost much more than an average blu-ray player, plus you get a game system and multi-media capability thrown in.

The current crop of phat PS3 has no PS2 backward compatibility anyway. Not trying to defend Sony but if anyone really want their PS2 classic games the slim PS2 is not a lot of money, esp. used.

My launch 60GB is pretty loud when it is warmed up... louder than my Elite 'Falcon' 360 (esp. if I played games from the harddrive). May pick up a slim if it is quieter...
