Automaton and other Canadian stores and US Dollars

As Peter Griffin from Family Guy would say, "Ya know what grinds my gears.." Well Canadian stores that charge in USD. I understand that the Canadian dollar is soft and the purchase price of the actual figures is bought by the retailer at USD and we have to pay that plus the exchange and of course the store has to make a profit, granted. However, and this is what kinda pisses me off, these stores charge us the Canadian provincial sales tax, which I understand too, but they charge it in US Dollars. So we pay the PST or HST+the exchange. Shouldn't Canadian taxes be paid in Canadian funds or offer some sort of discount program to the customer to reimburse the difference of the tax and conversion?? Maybe I'm just ranting. or maybe this is just the cost of doing business?

Re: Automaton and other Canadian stores and US Dollars

you're right! I hadn't thought about it but if we are paying Canadian taxes in U.S. Dollars that is not good at all.

Another reason to order less (or not order at all) from online stores operating in that manner.

Re: Automaton and other Canadian stores and US Dollars

Does it make a difference? Mathematically speaking that is?

eg. item A = $100 USD * 1.13= 113$USD / 0.78 exchange = 144.87 Cad.

Item A =100 USD /.78 exchange =128.20 * 1.13 = 144.87

Unless i'm doing the math incorrectly?

13% of the total isn't going to change, no matter how you do the math, 13% is 13%

Your Math-Fu is superior.

People forget the tax gets calculated on a lower amount.

Re: Automaton and other Canadian stores and US Dollars

That's just it. Tax is still the same be it USD or Cad. If the USD was 100.00 and the Cad was 100.00, then there would be a difference from the exchange, but still not the tax.
