Does box condition matter to anyone else?

Hey fellow collectors. I just recently got back into collecting (Started actively hunting since PoTP) and wanted to know how many of you care about the packaging of a figure. I wasn't always a MISB collector but began realizing that box damage is inevitable even when I am extremely careful - which can be slightly stressful sometimes (I accidentally split the cardboard on the Siege logo of Ironhide... there's just something about accindetally damaging your own items that feels terrible). In the past, I've also turned down hard to find figures in the wild over packaging flaws ... but then also realized that what was important was it was better to have a figure than none so I became less critical. Please, share some of your experiences. Thanks!

Re: Does box condition matter to anyone else?

I get rid of the innards, and keep the skin/box folded up for the artwork and information. but overall, buying used out of the box doesn't bug me that much either. At times I'd consider scanning them or such and ditching them, but IF I was to resell something I would believe that the box would had some value to the figure.

As far as flaws go, well, like anything, I don't really enjoy getting something that's seriously damaged, but as long as the figure is fine, it's not a deal breaker at all.

3rd party stuff or the expensive ones, such as my Soul of Chogokins and other true collectables, those I do try to have decent boxes and keep them complete so that I can store the figures and all the accessories properly.

lol..they could give it to me in a paper bag and I'd be fine, especially if it cut costs and made it cheaper. To each their own, the figure matters to me.

Having a box is important if reselling the piece is the long term goal and can make a dramatic price differance and in cases such as g1 takara sought after by collectors

This. I only keep boxes for MP and 3P. Even Hasbro titan class boxes go in the bin.

For the ones I do keep, I prefer they're in nice condition, but that's nearly always the case with figures at such a price point. That said, I don't mind if it's a little dinged. It's more a shell to protect the expensive figure during moving house, than a collector's piece.

Expensive figures that have a good box and insert(s), yes. Others, no.

If I buy anything that came in a box, I'll keep the box so I can store the figure back inside when it's not being displayed. I used to do the same with bubbles and cardbacks, but to save space I only keep the cardbacks now.

Re: Does box condition matter to anyone else?

I have always kept the packaging from any TF I have bought in the past 20 years whether I opened the toy or not. Towards the end of my collecting I kept everything sealed.

If I'm buying G1 stuff then the box isn't all that important.

In my personal opinion if the artwork is good I keep the box or the card back plus some card backs have the instructions printed on them but as for the bubble or trays they head for the recycling, I look at it this way I buy tfs to transform them and enjoy them as the toys they are meant to be not something to be stuck on a wall if you want that go get a poster or a painting.
