Dealing with a Paypal/Ebay dispute...Doesn't look good...
I sold an item on ebay, and it was sent to Spain. However, it was mailed by Small Packet internation and insured up to $100 Cdn.
Now after finding out that I have no damned protection, I think the buyer is trying to scam me. Canada Post says it's up to $100 Cdn insured, but is that any way to find out where the item is or to even mail it back here?
The problem is that the item sold was over $200 US.
I think I'm screwed, but I'm trying to reduce the damage. I can't believe how shitty Canada Post is when it comes to service, prices and features versus every other country in the world.
Note to self: never ****king sell internationally ever again...

Yes, now I know, but that just kills the competitiveness of selling. It doesn't make sense to ship something to somewhere in the world for $70-80 that's the size of a tissue box.

Unless you're only shipping to the US, that's not an option. Our version of EMS costs an arm and a leg. For a parcel weight of 400 g, the weight of a MOSC Deluxe or 2 loose deluxes, measuring 25 x 25 x 25 cm (you can go up to 30 x 30 x 30 cm for the same price), check out the pricing:
Small packet surface: 8.11 (no one wants to use the boat option)
Small packet air: 15.80 (the only real solution)
International surface parcel: 45.46 (again, not an option, takes forever)
Priority Worldwide: 74.28 (your first decent option with tracking)
ExpressPost International: 88.39
The tricky thing with insurance is that you have to be able to prove the value of the stuff you sent.

When the Paypal case was opened was there actually any money in your Paypal account to start with ?
Yes always use tracking. eBay/Paypal has made it a friendly environment for buyers...not so much for sellers

Re: Dealing with a Paypal/Ebay dispute...Doesn't look good...
I've lost $40 through a bad e-bay deal a number of years ago. Never managed to get any money back, never managed to get the item. And never managed to get anything resolved. Through Paypal and e-bay, neither one were able to help me. Since the user left e-bay and Paypal, there was nothing they could do.
I'm more careful about to who and how I send money now.

Re: Dealing with a Paypal/Ebay dispute...Doesn't look good...
i refuse to sell to Italy, or spain due to this very issue. it's not so much an issue with Canada Post, as it is The spanish and Italian postal service. it is privately run company, with very strict importation laws. you think our border is bad when you carry across drugs.... you don't want to know the horror stories i've heard about toy laws at those boarders. something about only wooden toys are allowed, or something like that, and if you label the package correctly, and some lazy, underpaid worker decides he wants to take your transformer home for his kid, worst can happen is he'd loose his job. since it's not a government run service.... no big deal for them.
With ebays new suck the dicks of our buyers policy, i've stopped selling on ebay all together. it's to much of a scarry place for sellers now. even WITH tracking and proof of shipping, paypal can still give your money back to a buyer if he goes through is credit card. AND they can put you in a negative paypal balance, and lock you up good and tight till you pay them back.
no, selling on ebay is a bad idea now.

Fuck, I didn't know Spain was an unsafe and shitty country to ship to. I can only hope to make a claim for insurance, but even that's tricky.
That's it, only shipping to Canada and the US now. The rest of the world can suck it.

Well, your reaction might be a bit extreme. Just avoid Italy and Spain and you'll be fine. I've sent huge shipments to various non-US destinations just fine. Actually, I think I've been screwed only 4 times on Ebay, and it was as a buyer: twice from sellers in Ontario and twice from sellers in the US.
As for claiming money back through a credit card company, it's not as easy as it sounds. I've tried.
