Well, it all depends on what is actually causing the decay. If it is just oxygen, then sealing off every bit of it should hold it all together. Of course, there's the risk of joints wearing through whatever coating.
But then if its just the bonds between the metal flakes and the plastic wearing down, then its a losing battle. Unless the coating is strong enough to provide enough structural support, it'll crumble from the inside.
What I think could be done is to have some third party reproduction company take casts of the fresh parts before they crumble, and then later provide reproduced spares without GPS.
