If you could turn back the clock and start your collection over

Hypothetically speaking, if you could retain what you know now about the hobby and go back 5 years, would you have gone a different direction with your collection?

I would have done things a little different.

I'd never have nickel and dimed on Marvel Legends and instead used that to save up for some of the more expensive MP scale Transformers.

I'd have been a completionist from day one with Star Wars Black Series.

And I'd have stuck to just those 2 lines. The collection would be less diverse, yet more focused.

Definitely. I'd likely skip a lot of what I've picked up to be honest, and invest in a few pieces I missed out on. Focus on Masterpiece and get in on 3p early...

That or completely skip collecting all together and buy a house lol.

Definately would have skipped out on most of the chug transformers. Ie. Galaxyforce enegron armada
And most of rhe first series of generations and classic.
Could have bought a really nice house wirh all that ...

I don't know about 5 years ago, but looking back I would've skipped most of Energeon. Many, the gimmick was fun and all but that line had some stinkers, which I bought because the completionist in me couldn't let them go.

I would've picked up a lot more vintage lines that are costing way too much these days back when they weren't so well known or sought after.

If I had a time machine, I guess I would've went straight to sealed g1 boxes instead of mib.

It would be easy to say be a little more picky with the 3p stuff but better stuff always comes along. Its the evolution of the hobby so I guess not too much regret.

I'm still confused today on where my collection is going.

My only real regret is being too young to collect seriously in the G1 days
Collection is a smattering of G1, bunch of Action Masters, a ton of Beast Wars (mostly show characters, and the odd additional one that tickled my fancy) and practically everyone from Animated (love the style)
Didn't collect any Energon, Armada, Alternators (got Wheeljack as a present though), Bayformers or CHUGs, only picked up the odd one that looked neat (that Rodimus truck cab, the digging-crane armed dude, Overload, the mini-con set with the submarine, etc)
Wasn't until Combiner Wars that I started getting back into it seriously

For time machine, maybe ensure I kept better care of my G1s & AMs, and collect more/all of the AMs
Maybe keep my 10th Anniversary Dinobot sealed in his box (too late now, whups - hope he's still intact in whatever box he's packed in)

If I could go back I would have skipped about 99% of all the movie stuff I ended up buying. And I would have skipped out on a lot of the 3P items I got.

I wish I would have kept more of my childhood G1s but that goes back further than 5 to 10 years

Im rather content with my Animated, CHUG, Beast Wars and Prime stuff.

Few missing things here and there I wish I would have picked up. But some things its just hard to justify the cost of them. Maybe some time when I can find a good deal. For now a few holes will remain.
