But why?

Is this how far MMC has fallen?

Because having options is good, I would assume.

Re: MMC's Kojin -aka. Artfire

With the announcement of this I'm thinking of using a different company for each character (Takara, mmc and x-transbots). Was thinking mmc for art fire, Takara for grapple and x-transbots for inferno (would have done Takara inferno but to my knowledge x-transbots grapple hasn't been released yet).

Any opinions whether any specific companies version of a character looks better and why

^ It depends how you want to display them.
Vehicle mode? XTB's Dante all the way.
Robot mode? Maketoys' Hellfire.
For a second one in vehicle mode, I'd go with MMC/OX, since the back half doesn't look like arms resting on legs, which all others except XTB's does.

Why would you take this as a negative?

1) This encourages the fans to participate in the active production of a figure.

2) The fans - if there are enough people funding the project - will benefit with a price drop and other potential rewards.

3) There are/were at least 2 other companies producing the 'Inferno' mold. rather than flooding the market with yet another rendition of the same character - MMC looks to be attempting to minimize their costs - as well as eliminating overstock - which of course costs $$.

4) Again - making a controlled number - this prevents retailers from overestimating and buying excess stock. This not only prevents the overstock for retailers, but also prevents the flooding of the market of the overstock; the massive discounts that eventually comes with it (as retailers panic), and the damage to the third party's (MMC) reputation ( As shoppers see the product on massive discount - thinking that it's an inferior product etc.)

Re: MMC's Kojin -aka. Artfire

I think it's a very smart move on their part:
Protect the company, which can't afford to over-produce a lower-demand product the way hastak can.
Protect the dealers, who can't afford to be flooded with inventory.
Make the customer feel like they have a say, give them access to a limited edition without having to race to be first in line at a convention or pay scalpers, and pass along some of the savings from economy of scale.

I'd expect to see 3P LE's done this way more often as competition rises.

And as always, if someone doesn't want something, they don't have to buy it.

Re: MMC's Kojin -aka. Artfire

lets not forget it also helps in limiting who is, and how many of these figures individuals/businesses are getting. It definitely stops the overstock for sure... but as the orders get higher there are bonuses.... low risk high payoff.... if it doesn't come together they refund money and move on, and if they hit targets they've already made their money... so its a win/win
