Re: What have the TF movies brought to TF in general

They brought the concept of the Allspark being a physical object, rather then an asteral plain or place. Brought back to line normally unknown and forgotten micromaster names and concepts (Barricade, Blackout, ect). Brought millions of "new fag" fans.

On the downside, I feel it really hurts TFs in terms of how seriously anyone will be able to take it. It has killed any credibility TFs could have had as a legitimate, smart sci-fi. Now what people in general expect from Transformers will be simply action and comedy (and hot girls, where applicable). I doubt anyone will "reboot" the TF movie franchise the way Batman Begins did.

For better or for worse, it has brought Transformers to to mainstream. There are more fans of the franchise than ever before (take that for good or bad... I'm not sure sometimes). The financial success can only lead to better products down the road (I'm not a big fan of the movie stuff myself, but more money can only lead to better product development overall).

Re: What have the TF movies brought to TF in general

Honestly I'm so tired of hearing about how people wish everything could be more like Batman Begins/Dark Knight.

Star Wars should have been more like Dark Knight.

G.I.Joe should have been more like Dark Knight.

Transformers should have been more like Dark Knight.

Enough, seriously

Dark Knight works great for Batman because its what Batman has always been. A dark, brooding superhero with twisted, bizarre villians.

That won't work for these other franchises because it moves to far away from the original sources, which is what any franchise should be aiming for.

The Bay films have brought Transformers to a mainstream audience to the point that everyone now knows who Bumblebee and Optimus Prime are. Thats gotta be a good thing, even if some of the cool kids don't want to share their franchise

And they made a ton of money for Hasbro which should get poured into making cool new toys and such.

All and all its mostly positive at this point. Time will tell if the Bay movies have a positive or negative impact long term.

Frankly the success of these films mean there is a chance that we'll eventually see a re-invented version in the future, just like happened with Batman.

In terms of toy design, movie toys have really pushed the enveloppe. They have made possible once what was thought impossible.

I dont think it is crazy to say it saved TFs...seriously. I believe A/E/C was a flop both on TV and the shelves. Alts and Classics were getting cancelled...Titaniums tanked. The movie inspired Animated. If not for the movie, who knows what, if any, state TFs would be in.

Agreed.

The movies have also introduced the "alien" aspect of Transformers to the mainstream.

Until now most TFs in media (G1 cartoon, comics, etc.) were bi-predal and humanized with 2 eyes, 2 legs, 2 arms, 5 fingers, etc. Even alt-modes were usually tied into our universe, whether 'truk or munky'...

But now with the movies some 'bots have 4 fingers or don't look human at all (Bumblebee, The Fallen), some don't have legs (RotF Arcee and Demolishor), and some have alt-modes that are extra-terrestrial (Megatron, Soundwave).
