Did TR have fewer redecos/retools than usual?

After the overflow that was CW, it feels like there were much fewer redecos/retools that usual. I get there were some extensive retools like the jets (which to be fair, were almost like new figures in themselves), but it seems like most got maybe one "re-release".

Heck, several figures didn't even get a single redeco/tool IIRC, like Mindwipe, Wolfwire, Perceptor, most legends, etc.

I'm wondering if this is a trend that's going to carry on to PotP. I don't know if you can really re-deco the dinobots, and it's probably going to be a stretch with the predacons/terrorcons as well.

I'd say it was the opposite. It had more than usual.

Perceptor was a retool of Hardhead. I'm still not counting out Takara from doing something with Weirdwolf, Rodimus, Kup, and Full-Tilt.

It was a fun line while it lasted, but I'm looking forward to seeing what oddballs they can squeeze into POTP.

How is Perceptor a retool of Hardhead?

It's no secret Perceptor is a heavy retool of Hardhead.

Even IF it were true, I'd say it's a pretty big secret. TFwiki doesn't even allude to this.

I have both figures and had no idea.
I'm going to say that when robot modes are that divergent and none of the alt modes even remotely resemble each other, it's basically beyond a retool.

When you say this, exactly what molds are you referring to? I don't see how anyone can argue that TR had more than CW. There were very few straight redecos, and excluding exclusive sets it sure seemed like 1 or 2 extensive retools was the limit.

The Triggerhappy and Kup molds were used extensively

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Triggerhappy was only used for 2 retools, hardly what I'd call "extensively used".

And how many times was Kup retooled?

Re: Did TR have fewer redecos/retools than usual?

I would say wayyy less for redecos. I mean, we had Quake from Hardhead, Krok from Skullsmasher and Orion from Kup, for example. Then there was Roadburn, or Chase if you will, from Bee I think the retools were about the same but generally done so clever that you could often call them a new figure with the same skeleton, a retool done right. Like Broadside from Alpha Trion, Overlord from Sky Shadow and Highbrow from Scourge. And, apparently, Preceptor (?) from Hardhead. First I heard of this but if it is then I never in a billion years would have guessed. I know this much, I never felt any mold fatigue at all with Titans Return.

Kup was only retooled once. As Orion Pax.

What's your definition of extensively?

I'm having a really hard time buying this Hardhead/Perceptor retool claim. I'm looking at both figures right now and I don't see a single shared part or any similarity in the transformation scheme.
