It depends. Most Amazon marketplace sellers won't sell items international while Amazon itself usually will have that option. I agree in that if you're buying stuff like MP's, generally large items, then yeah sites like AE and Amiami will be far better in terms of shipping prices.

Generally Amazon.jp is great for small items like books and CDs which is what I usually get.

For anyone interested there's BigInJapan. Amazon orders can be shipped to their address and for a flat 500 yen they will act as a forwarding service for your item and once they receive it they will ship directly to you. I've used them before.
