Shaw HD quality?

I switched over to Shaw, from Bell, back in September, and noticed their HD channels will have audio drop outs for a couple seconds. As for the picture quality, I had a big projection TV that did 480p, so the picture looked really good, until we bought a new plasma, and now when ever I watch majority of the HD stuff, it looks like I'm streaming them from online. Like, the picture gets blocky during a lot of movement onscreen. Is this just a problem with my HD box, or have others noticed this too? Any one know if Shaw can do anything about it?

As for the audio drop out, it happens randomly. Like during Lost last night, it didn't happen until the last 10 minutes of the episode, and kept dropping out during important conversations. It was like someone was doing it on purpose.

Welcome to the world of HD over cable, it never looks good, no matter what you do.

Re: Shaw HD quality?

I get the audio drop out from time to time... and yes, they seem to come at the worst times. I've also had the pixels or blocks show up on occasion. I've just learned to accept it. I'm more frustrated with the PVR that decides not to record things when it is supposed to.

Yeah, HD over cable is kind of a bad idea... Which is why I want Bell.

Re: Shaw HD quality?

I have digital cable (Not HD) with Shaw, earlier this week picture was getting blocky and sound was dropping every now and then. Everything seems fine now.

Re: Shaw HD quality?

For Digital tv I remember having to upgrade the cable splitters and the tiling/blocks went away.

Re: Shaw HD quality?

Well, that sucks to hear about the HD quality. I guess I'll be switching back to Bell at the end of the year.

This. You may need a service call from Shaw to get your cables fixed if some are not isolated properly. If off air RF frequencies enter the cable through bad splitters, connectors or cables, it'll cause noise that your digital box will not recognize, and cause signal loss (squares, sound and image freezing).

Also, the problem could come from HDMI compatibility between your digital box and your TV. Try component cables to find out.

EDIT: sometimes sound and image problems can come from the broadcaster, and Shaw will have no control over that.
