I've updated my blog post with added screenshots that display the end result.
The Raspberry Pi still boots into EmulationStation, it adds a new "faux" emulator menu item for Kodi that you can select, but it's not under the ports section - it's its own menu item.
And yes, I have it working. I wouldn't have suggested it if I hadn't first tested it...
However, I do have it running under a slightly older version of RetroPie 3.8.1, I believe.
