2 Bee, or Not 2 Bee Custom Challenge
In honour of the recent Toys 'R Us sale, I thought we could kill two birds with one stone:
A. Encourage the awesome creative community to do what they do... Be creative.
B. Clear out as many of those fricking Prime Bumblebees as possible.
I call this competition "2 Bee, or Not 2 Bee". It consists of two parts:
Part 1: 2 Bee
1. You must use a Prime (First Edition or RID) Bumblebee as the base robot. From there you can do whatever the hell you want.
2. You must avoid the use of yellow or black. Accent colouring is fine, but not for the main colour. I know limiting black makes it harder on a colour scheme, but that is part of the challenge. You won't automatically lose for doing this, but you'll score more points if you don't.
3. Internet mocking will ensue if you dunk BB in a vat of gold or red paint and rename him Goldbug, G2 or Cliffjumper.
Part 2: Not 2 Bee
1. You use any Transformer that is not Bumblebee and paint/mod him up in a Bumblebee theme. Any form of Bumblebee can NOT be part of the base build. You can use Bumblebee parts, but not Bumblebee himself.
2. While yellow and black are discouraged in the Part 1, they are mandatory here. Yellow and Black must be the main colour scheme of your project.
I thought a fair deadline for such a thing would be October 26. Then I realized that is actually not that far away. In order to get maximum participation, I thought that maybe a December deadline is more realistic. Let's call it December 15th as the "official" deadline.
Rewards
What's this? I get something out of this? Sure... why not. What is it? Based on the time of year of the deadline, this is what I am willing to contribute right now:
1. $50 Toys 'R Us gift card for you to treat yourself to whatever you want.
2. $100 Toys 'R Us gift card for you to buy as much stuff as you can for your local toy drive.
3. There may be Prime Bumblebee prize as well.
This is off the top of my head as of right now. I figured why not do some good for someone else while doing this. If anyone else wants to contribute something, speak up!
Judging
I will try to put together an expert panel of judges for this. You will be judged on the criteria laid out above. Judges will be eligible to participate, but unable to vote for their projects.
To be eligible for the cash and prizes, you must complete both parts of the challenge. You must be a member of Cybertron.ca (it is free to sign up. Do it!) to take part. All skill levels are encouraged to participate. The whole point is to have fun with this, and help unclog the shelves.
I'll figure out the logistics of how to exactly "enter", but posting a thread with mention of "2 Bee, or Not 2 Bee" is a pretty safe bet. Also, I'll make my email available to those who want it (pm me) to send photos directly.
A sample of how things will be scored is attached below. The judges scores will be averaged and will count towards 80% of the overall score. There will also be a "Fan Vote" which will be worth 20%.
Try to BEE creative here!

Yes. Let's try to clear out as many Bees as possible.....
Wait! Isn't this going to make Hasbro and retailers think BB is popular again (what with all the Bumblebee toys flying off the shelf)?

I never thought of that. This could be dangerous.

Re: Proposal for a Customs Contest.
Cool concept.
Also, this naturally means I could just dunk one in gold paint and call it G2.
(I kid, I kid. Seriously, will have to think of a concept.)

Re: Proposal for a Customs Contest.
Sounds fun but I think I'll pass on this one. I don't have a TRU in my area. I'm really looking forward to seeing what folks come up with out of this, though.

Touché.
I'm glad there are people interested. Spread the word and see how many Bees we can free from the shelves!
I'll work on some "official" guidelines and think up some prize options to make it worth your while.

Re: Proposal for a Customs Contest.
Couldn't I just put it in a blender or the microwave, and call it "An Improvement"?
