Question about HLJ

I was wondering how bad the tax and import fees are for an order from Hobby link Japan to Canada.

I'm not too familiar to ordering from non-Canadian online shops.

Re: Question about HLJ

it was pretty bad. ordered masterpiece rodimus:

http://www.hlj.com/product/TKT34240

and so it translated to almost $200 based on the conversion. when i went to pick it up from the mail office (always a bad sign, as most other things are delivered) i was dinged for another $40.

value for duty $163.30
duty $10.61
GST/HST $20.87
handling fee $8.00
total payable $39.48

needless to say i was not impressed.

Would a small order of ¥3,241 ($40.11) be as bad? (should have put that in the first post )

Re: Question about HLJ

I order from HLJ all the time, and never got taxes/import duties. Ever. Might be because I love choosing the EMS option.

Do you still have your Customs documents? Can you take a pic/scan of the CBSA form?

Toys should not be subject to duty in Canada...unless they classified the item under some other tariff classification because it is a "collectible". That might be difficult since it's a Masterpiece...but generally most transformers can be classified as toys.

You could probably submit some documents to the CBSA and try and get the $10.61 back at least...

Generally, worst case scenario for importing toys you should expect to pay HST on the value of the item (including shipping), plus a handling fee.

Note: Orders of $20 or less don't attract taxes and/or duty if imported personally - it just isn't worth their time to look at them.

I went to the US the weekend before and spent like $200 on toys, came back and had to pay $38 bucks in duty :/ Just on the toys.

Duty, or totaly duty and taxes? You'd at least pay HST on the toys ($26 on $200 in toys).

Do you have any customs documents? I'm really curious as to what tariff rate they're putting on these things. I'm on my phone now but will try and post some relevant tariff classes tonight.

My shipment from TFCC got hit with GST/HST, but not duty for this reason.

Re: Question about HLJ

I too have so far never paid customs or duties with EMS shipping from HLJ. I think the largest dollar value I spent in one shipment was close to 150.00 and again I just signed for the package. On average I buy items around the 50-70.00 range, mostly the Revoltech stuff and single items shipped out. Though now that they have the 60day private warehouse, I can ship more items together that I have pre-ordered.
I've never had issues, so far, so I dunno.
