I read an article within the Gundam community that sanding and thin matte coats made the scratches less noticeable and even disappear. Haven't tried it myself though. But you'd have to be willing to apply matte finish to your MP. In this case, the finish is rather dull on most of the red and grey parts to begin with so might actually be worth a try.

If you apply a matte spray to your factory plastic, it also gets rid of all the plastic swirl marks.

You get a way better apearence in my opinion doing this.

Here's a stock figure that I just sprayed with a matte finish, as you can see a improvement.

What are you using for a matte finish? I have been thinking of buying some Mr. Hobby Super Clear Matte spray. I don't own an air brush kit.

I wouldn't do that, paint looks awful on plastic when applied like that IMO.

TF are better hand painted unless you dare to disassemble the whole figure and rebuild it.

Tamiya - Matte - rattle can

And yes I diisassembled the figure and sprayed it. Like I sad it takes away the plastic swirls.
I would do it on a little figure first to see if you like it.

Re: The Masterpiece Appreciation and Speculation Thread

Disassembly, cleaning and painting produces a result far superior to hand-painting. A little patience and Tamiya sprays have resulted in near factory-quality paint apps for me.

I do disaassemble (as much as possible), file, and sand. I just prefer hand painting as I have better control using a small fine brush and I can paint more details.

I just finished WFC Soundwave and WFC Megatron and started FOC Shockwave. I am only missing the final touch as I have not found the metallic purple I want for the glowing purple light effects.

Re: The Masterpiece Appreciation and Speculation Thread

There is one advantage to hand-painting that I can think of. That is paint-mixing. One can get some really cool colours. Also, seeing some of the work on here that is hand-painted, I am impressed. Clearly there are some with significant talent and a steady hand. That is not me though. I might as well be wearing mittens and so the sprays work better for me.
