Older Marvel trading cards
So as some of you know, I'm still in my "gradual move" process, with a lot of my crap still at my parents' place.
Yesterday, I dug up my old collections of Marvel and X-men trading cards, dating from between 1991 and 1996-ish (when I stopped collecting).
Is there still a market for these? Some sets are complete, some are missing a handful of cards, and I usually have a few of the chase/bonus/limited cards...
Anyone know if comic/hobby stores would buy these?
Off the top of my head, I have:
- Marvel Series II (1991) - complete
- X-men series I (Jim Lee series) (1991) - complete
- Marvel Series III (1992) - complete
- Marvel Series IV (1993) - complete
- X-men series II (1993) - complete
- X-men All-Chromium (1995) - almost complete (missing like 3-5 cards)
- Spider-Man Fleer Ultra (1995) - complete... I think
- Spider-Man Eternal Evil (1996) - complete... I think
Though on first gut-feeling, I have the hunch that trading cards, unless complete with all chase cards, aren't really worth much in the long run...

Re: Older Marvel trading cards
I've seen complete Marvel series I sets for $20 compete in binder not including the holographic cards. The right store may be interested but they will not give you very much for them. Usually 1/2 of what the book value is.

Yeah, figures...
Oh well, I guess I'll likely be keeping them then. Gotta find enough plastic sheets so that I can put them all back in binders.

Freedom you have come to some of the toy shows in Montreal, there is always this old couple that sells complete sets of trading cards (in plastic cases instead of binders). The sad truth is the trading card market is dead.
I might be interested in the Marvel Series II,III,IV and the X-men series I (Jim Lee series). Come to Toycon on the 17th and talk to the old couple first (they are ALWAYS there) if they ain't interested bring them by my table.

Re: Older Marvel trading cards
Marvel Masterpieces (series 1) cards were nothing short of amazing.
Oh the money I wasted...

I used to buy a lot of sports cards/Overpower (pre-intellect). At times, I feel like burning them all.

Overpower....... have not heard that in YEARS. Marvel first (but not last) shot at the CCG world.

Yeah, I remember that table out in the back each time I'm at Toycon... never seems to have much clientele.
I guess I'll end up keeping them. Based on what I've seen and what's been said here, the money I'd get from selling them wouldn't cover for the sentimental feelings of nostalgia I have with them...
And on a side note, I realized that
a) I had collected one more Spidey set that I completely forgot about, and
b) Some of my sets are far from complete. (though coincidentally, Marvel Series II, III, IV and X-Men series I are the ones that are complete)

Re: Older Marvel trading cards
I also have complete sets of the Marvel I II and III with various holograms and such. I even have the original Overpower packs with enough characters for 4-5 people if not more.
Knowing that they aren't worth spit I feel like clipping them to my bike and letting the spokes do the work....ah brings back memories.

Re: Older Marvel trading cards
I was HUGE into the Marvel Universe cards, back in the day. Completed a few sets, but missed out on a lot of the holograms. Just one of the things I don't think I could ever get rid of.
