Just finished Fall of Cybertron

Yeah... took me a while but only because I spent all my time playing the Multiplayer and a game glitch made me start back a few missions.

It was fun and a good filler story but I got a bit confused as to what happened to Grimlock and his gang. Since I didn't play straight through there were long periods between my missions of the story mode and with the glitch I'm not sure if I caught (or remembered) everything. Shockwave experimented on them and altered their robot DNA into the Dinobots?

Do we know what they were prior to the mutation?

At one point (I think it was Jazz's or Cliffjumper's mission) we see Sludge's dino-body so I presumed they were Dinobots already but the rest of the gang seemed so confused by their "new" appearances in the Grimlock mission I thought maybe it was suggesting they were something else previously.

Did I miss something or is that a continuity error?

I just wiki'd the FOC dinobots and apparently Sludge was in pre-dino form when Jazz pulled his memory core. I could have sworn I saw his Sauropod body laying on the ground but I guess I just forgot too many details and made some up to fill in the gaps.

The "Dinobots" were the Lightning strike coalition Team. They were vehicular but we're uncertain as to what. What you saw on the floor of Jazz' level was Sludge's torn off arm.

Ah, thanks! I'm too lazy to go back and replay it but the piece being Sludge's arm makes sense. I guess when I heard his name my mind saw the head and neck rather than an arm.

What's REALLY confusing is how it was made apparent Sludge was "dead".. sorta.. well we can certainly think he's not coming back.

But in the Rage of the Dinobot comic miniseries it is shown he is alive and well.

I read that there was no word on what happened to Sludge's memory core that Jazz took. Perhaps it's possible to install an intact memory core into a new body. Shockwave must have done something along that lines... and they did see the hologram for Sludge's dino body. Maybe they downloaded the specs too.

That's all quite possible yeah, during the escape sequence with Jazz it really seemed like his body would unrecoverable but I don't know, there's probably going to be something done in the future Beast Hunter miniseries that will explain that.

When I read the first Rage of the Dinobots I was just like.. "Huh?"
