Re: Display shelves

Great idea Multiplex. Something to keep in mind should I ever go the Detolf route

Re: Display shelves

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Think I might try the Dollarama drawer organizer as a cheap and fast solution, then re-evaluate.

Another thing I did was piece together risers from using cheap single photo displays and glass frame inserts I found at Dollarama. Here's an example of it in my collection. It's a real economical way to split your Detolf in half but still keep the Detolf look. It's hard to tell but if you look towards the back you will notice the photo displays on their sides with the glass laying on it. And since the single photo displays are clear, they are hardly noticeable.

Here's an example of the using the same idea but only splitting part of the Detolf. I also use the Dollarama acrylic trays. I find Detolfs are great to display a collection but there is much wasted space in the vertical direction above the glass.

oooo like what you did with the single photo risers. now i got loads of new ideas of how to rearrange my toys.

Re: Display shelves

I've had a couple people inquiry exactly what I did to achieve this effect. So here are some better pictures.

Here is the before pic for reference.

Here are the dollar store acrylic single photo frames.

When turned on their sides, they support the weight of any picture frame glass insert. By using different types of acrylic frames, you can achieve various heights.

And the end result. Of course the possibilities are endless when using different size picture frame inserts and acrylic frames. Good luck!

Re: Display shelves

Thank you for the explanation Multiplex.
What are you using as a base, in the last picture, under the Starscream's stand please?

Re: Display shelves

Brilliant! I was wondering if there was a way to take advantage of the lost vertical space in these things

Re: Display shelves

I'm assuming it's the glass from dollarama picture frames about 2 3 bucks each

You are correct, sir. I bought various frames of different sizes from Dollarama. I even found one that was the exact same width as the stock detolf shelf.

Re: Display shelves

Re: Display shelves

You could just ask a glass guy to cut you the specific size of shelf. I had a guy here give me a whole bunch of shelves the same size and thickness as the Detolf shelves, all for free. It's just scrap glass.
