Re: A bit... underwhelmed by it all
Yeah, I have no problems with simpler transformations for the less expensive toys. But if you're going to expect me to shell out almost $60 for a toy it had better be worth it!
ROTF/HFTD Leader Prime was a $60 toy! Big and complex. A perfect toy for adult collectors and older kids. I can certainly see where younger kids and their parents would have had trouble with it, but I don't think it was really for the5-6 year old crowd. Like I said, it was more for us and the 9+ crowd.
Oh, and I've seen deluxe Strafe on TRU shelves.

Deluxe Strafe or the one where his torso spins Strafe, cause not the same toys. Torso spinning Strafe is out, like the weapon gun gimmick Hound, but the actual Deluxe and Voyagers are not out.

But could this mean that Retailers ordered more movie merchandise and hence why it sold more than the other lines?
Looks like ROTF was the peek and we are now headed in a downward cycle, time will tell if AOE continues this trend or causes a spike upwards. If the trend continues, let's hope for a reboot in 4-5 years with some fresh directorial talent!
I can imagine prime in that chart saying "Give me your face, er I mean wallet"

The big take away from that chart is that Hasbro could barely make $100,000,000 in revenue before the movies. Since then they haven't gone below $200,000,000.
Pretty good investment overall. However if the number ever do fall below $200,000,000 and closer to $100,000,000, there might be trouble for the brand.
However that doesn't look likely for the foreseeable future.

Re: A bit... underwhelmed by it all
I got Dispensor and Jolt from the Advanced series today. Forgot how cool some of the older molds were.
