Protoman made the point in his podcast that the most likely reason for this, according to him at least, is trademark retention.

From what I have heard protoman say, trademarks for names come up for renewal every 4-5 years. As such Hasbro has to make something to renew the trademark. They can't just renew it without using it on a product. Now apparently it doesn't have to be a new product, or even the character that used it before.

Since Titans return was what? 4 years ago? It is most likely the trademarks are up for renewal, and what is easier than just reissuing them with new packaging? Oh and new heads. Easy peasy and the trademarks are safe for another 4-5 years.

At least that is my understanding from listening to Protoman. Anyone with better knowledge feel free to jump in and correct me.

Vintage packaging, which sells.

As much as the packaging appeals, I dread having to take care of G1 packaging box, which is a headache in itself, and who knows how difficult it is to get all these figures in good condition, either locally or from a reseller/Stateside.

I think I'll be better off just buying the Takara Legends Headmaster set.

G1 packaging shouldn't be the incentive to buy.
Didn't work for the rest of the g1 reissues.
Like I said their marketing is useless.
And I bet these will clog up shelves. (REDUCED)

Well the Headmasters are the Takara versions so for North American retail yes they are "new hats" hahaha

Ditto, the LG versions come with the little vehicle dudes!

I literally bought LG Skullsmasher & Mindwipe to get their lil t-rexs, I got all five variants

Gave the extra croc body to Convobat's Megalligator, and never picked up NA version of Mindwipe, so wins all around (LG croc's head stays in the t-rex for jaw/arms)
