Re: Unofficial Photographic Archive vol 1 and 2

I want to support this but there is a problem. I asked this question over at TFW2005 but no response from ocular. How come I can't just pledge Volume 1 like the US pledgers can? I can't afford to get both. What's the reason for this?

Looks good; good luck to all of those involved.

Re: Unofficial Photographic Archive vol 1 and 2

I want to support this project, and I can step over the cost of $110US for two high-quality books, but $46US for shipping to Canada, dang, that's a major deterrent. For what will probably be a modest production run, I think that the lower cost of shipping it yourselves would have resulted in higher sales, with the additional revenue making the additional labour on your part worthwhile.

thx for the clarification below my friend!

Kickstarter only funds if the project reaches its goal.

I've backed numerous successful (and failed) kickstarters projects.

From the kickstarter website FAQ:

All-or-nothing funding is a core part of Kickstarter and has a number of advantages:
It's less risk for everyone. If a project doesn’t reach its funding goal, creators will not be expected to complete their project without the funds necessary to do so, and backers will not be charged.

It motivates. Adding a sense of urgency motivates your community to spread the word and rally behind your project.

It works. Of the projects that have reached 60% of their funding goal, 98% were successfully funded. We find that projects either realize and surpass their goal, or they never fully take off.

Agreed.

The price to get both volumes is a bit much for Canadians, but I'd consider getting a single volume if it allowed shipping to Canada.

For some reason, that perk is only available to the US.

There is a group shipping option, which is the best we could do, shipping for a single book is still 46 through the only companies that kickstarter will allow. It's not like i want to charge people crazy shipping, we're just kind of cornered, if any of you have facebook, text me on here and i'll hook you up with a cross border guy

Hmm. Didn't know that Kickstarter only allows for certain shipping companies.

Are you getting any sort of bulk shipping discount from UPS Ground?

I assume that the weight and size of the books are also the main reason for the higher shipping costs.

I too was unaware that Kickstarter only allows certain shippers. I guess they gotta double-dip somehow :\

Thanks for the forthright response, though, Brr-Icy. I'm gonna take your advice and try to find someone to co-ship with

Re: Unofficial Photographic Archive vol 1 and 2

yeah, there is one guy getting 20-50 sets of books shipped over from the usa to distribute up here to people that pledged, if you want to get a hold of him, let me know, the books are pretty heavy and they're over the weight required for first class
