It's been done before, however. If it's in the system, then whether it's in the store or not is irrelevant. Happened with Masterpiece Sunstorm and Prowl. Several people managed to do it then.

I have rainchecks for combiner wars before they were found in stores as well.

How do you do that exactly? Do you go to the store or do it by calling TRU directly?

Stores actually generally can't process rainchecks until they have been in store once. That's why some encountered issues getting CW rainchecks, they had to have had active stock at some point.

Actually incorrect as well. As long as the product is in their system they can generate one. I got them for CW from a TRU that had never had them and was one of the last to ever get them later on.

The point of a raincheck, however, is in line with your thinking. You're supposed to get one if the item you want, on sale, has sold out at the store you went to get it from. It's a way of honouring the sale for something they supposedly had in the store. However, you can use the process to nab things that aren't out yet if you know the SKU. It works better if they have stock somewhere, even at the distributor, however.
