Well most retailers have their own online store too like TRU so HTS having a canadian branch really isn't a big difference, just another option to buy online...one of MANY online ways in fact.
You could be right though. It could be that retailers don't want their vendor stepping on their toes in Canada.

No foolin'! I get stuff from Japan all the time, and I think shipping is cheaper than on HTS. And you know Amazon.com doesn't ship toys to Canada.

And you know what's more annoying? When TRU.ca won't let me order stuff with English-only packaging that's the only reason I'm shopping online you idiots! If I could just get it in your store I would! I get stuff in mono-Japanese packaging and nobody throws a hissy fit!

Lego sells their entire product line through their website, including limited and hard to find releases. You could buy the entire LOTR catalog on the day it was released to retailers. It can be done.

They don't ship every last toy that they sell, but they will ship a lot of them. I've had them ship me toys to Canada. They charge very reasonable customs up front and ship very fast with no brokerage.
