TFcon 2014 Charity Auction
How does everyone feel about the time on Saturday when the Charity Auction takes place?
I know there's quite a bit going on during the day on Saturday, so just curious if people would prefer the auction remain during the day on Saturday or move to the early evening (after the live script reading) and have it be a "Kick-Off" to the Saturday evening activities.
Also thinking of having the remaining items auctioned off during a silent auction that would run all day Sunday until after the Organizers Panel.
Just some thoughts we are having. Obviously nothing is set in stone - we are just wanting to get feedback.

Re: TFcon 2014 Charity Auction
Yes I Agree, I had mentioned this when I was there, totally missed both, and there was stuff I wanted.
Silent auction should run most of Saturday, that way a better chance of getting more bids
And the auction, if it was scheduled so it didn't conflict with any signings or panels would be great too.
I know scheduling everything is hard, as Saturday was a full and busy day, I had to miss a panel too

I like the early evening idea. You'll get a lot more traffic in the room if it's not competing with the dealer room or anything else.

Re: TFcon 2014 Charity Auction
I personally enjoyed the time it took place as there was a lull in the schedule that gave me time to grab food and chill beforehand
that said, I wouldn't mind early morning too. I'd be down for that (especially with the quality items we had this year)

Re: TFcon 2014 Charity Auction
I think the early evening auction idea sounds good.
Having the silent auction ending on Sunday gives a chance for a new crowd of people to put bids on the remaining items.

Re: TFcon 2014 Charity Auction
How about this. Have the auction begin 15 minutes after the dealer room closes on Saturday, and do some announcements about the charity auction happening at that time, as well as signage in the hallway that everyone will have to walk past as they leave.
Hell, get someone yelling "Charity auction starting soon" like they are selling hotdogs at a BlueJays game or something.
Just really dress it up and get in peoples faces with it.

Re: TFcon 2014 Charity Auction
I think early evening is a good idea. The typical pattern is : Panels end/dealer room closes; we watch the Movie; then there's this lull (aka Stormy's Naptime); then things kick off in the Bar. Putting the charity auction after the Dealer Room closure or after the Movie is a good idea, I think, since there seems to be a lot of hanging around wondering what to do in that time. I might suggest after the Movie, so that those who are ravenously hungry have time to go grab food (instead of attending the Movie) and then come back for the auction. I definitely think it is better to have the auction as an event unto itself, without competing panels, autograph sessions, etc.

Re: TFcon 2014 Charity Auction
What about having a live auction Friday night and the silent auction running during the day on Saturday?

How many attendees do you have on Friday night as opposed to Saturday?
