Shipping Vs. Selling??

Recent events in my life have prompted a move from here back to the states. What I am wondering have any of you shipped any parts of your collections over any amount of distance or is it a sell and start over?

I really dont want to sell them, but I think it would cost a fortune to ship.I may just rid of some of them and keep ones I cannot replace.

Any input is appreciated,thank you.

Re: Shipping Vs. Selling??

I did the opposite. When moving from PA to Ontario, I couldn't fit a lot of my collection on the truck, so I actually just boxed it all up very carefully and shipped it regular post to where I was moving. I took about three to five weeks for all of the boxes to arrive, but it all came safely and not too ridiculously expensive.

Of course, I did this mainly with opened figures from my collection to avoid annoying customs fees and such. I only moved a few items that were MISB this way.

I really have no advice for you but I want to wish you luck in figuring everything out.

The idea of shipping it to your new address, I think, is a good one.

Thanks to both of you guys for the input.I really want to ship some of it,but I think there are some I could rid of for extra money I might need.I just hate to lose my collection. There are so many I wont have the money to buy again.

I say ship anything that you can't take with you - and those that you are thinking of selling, well perhaps sell only what you would need to raise the funds to cover the shipping costs.

Re: Shipping Vs. Selling??

Depends how big your collection is, either way you cut it, it's better to ship it to yourself.

It depends. if you have a load of stuff and shipping will cost a fortune, maybe you could look into renting a larger truck, or even a small trailer for the extra room. that is, if the distance is close enough.

I am going back to Florida and not driving so I am kinda in a bind.I will sell what I can live without and try to pay the shipping on the rest.

Again thank you all for the input.

Re: Shipping Vs. Selling??

Shipping sounds like the best option for you.

Here's my advice

1. Look over your collection, see what pieces you can easily replace in the future and what pieces might have just been purchased for the hell of it or you don't love. Sell those ones, use the funds for shipping costs

2. Check with your Airline how much a box(es) would cost you to fly with you. Sometimes boxes vs. Suitcases can be flown as "cargo" or you might just have to pay $25-$100 for each box

3. Check out how much a logistics company would charge for delivery - Day and Ross for example vs. Canada Post

Good Luck!

Cheers!

Day & Ross is great if you're moving skids but anything less than a skid you're better off going canpost.
