Re: MySpace/Facebook...Etc...Can Someone Explain These To Me?

I use facebook a lot, mainly to find friends that I have not seen since the dawn of time. I also run the Montreal Transformers group there which has a unexpected large ammount of members (no doubt just due to the movie).

I use Facebook to keep in touch with my listeners for This Week in Geek and it seems to work quite well.

I don't have any interest on this Facebook thingie, til I got an old old friend invited. I went in, and BOMB, all these people pop up on my facebook...Most people who use this facebook thingie are girls....I don't know maybe just my list... I don't think facebook is fun at all...but well, there I am, as my friends wished.

Re: MySpace/Facebook...Etc...Can Someone Explain These To Me?

the main purpose of facebook was to have a easy way for university buddies stay in contact with each other after graduation. It's also useful when a job opening is available and and they let their friends know about it. before anyone else.

Students and Alumni of Uof T keep in touch with each other and help each other advance their career.

Of course, later when business bought it. it expanded into finding friends and stuff.

I've never heard of this before, I've always read that it was developed by a Harvard graduate/student. Where have you heard of this?

Re: MySpace/Facebook...Etc...Can Someone Explain These To Me?

A good reason that pushed me to join, was getting invited by a far friend who I otherwise had almost no contact with. In fact alatta folks aint emailers much and rely on facebook, so it's a way to stay in touch. Plus everyone has their own profile page they can update, so it's a good way to check up what's new with them.

Sometimes it's handy to just glance at someone's news without having to bother actually sending them an official email.

I like tv.com for that too.

Re: MySpace/Facebook...Etc...Can Someone Explain These To Me?

ooops....

I stand corrected, it wasn't developed by UofT students. But that was what it was usd for.

My ryerson friends uses MSN the same way. We keep in contact after gratuation and inform each other what's going on in the industry.

I was told it was a UofT student whom came up with the idea. but it was the americans who developed it.

Haha...that's why I don't really enjoy using it, not really that useful. I prefer MSN more than Facebook.
