Dremel

I'm looking to get into doing some modifications to my figures. I've never done it before, so I'm looking to start simple.

Human Alliance Barricade seems to be a good start. Those legs are terrible! I want to remove those things stopping his legs from going straight. So I know I need a dremel to remove it.

So my question is, what is the cheapest way to come across a dremel? What figures have you modified with just a dremel (just so I know I'm spending the money for one figure)? Are there other tools you would say are more fundamental to modding that I should get first?

Re: Dremel

I got a cordless dremel from Walmart for 30 bucks, not sure if they still have them or not. Also, Canadian Tire sometimes has their "rotary tools" on sale. I got one for 12 bucks once.

Re: Dremel

I got a Dremel Stylus for christmas. I know it wasn't cheap (around $80) but it is the best dremel for customizing (IMO at least)

Re: Dremel

Yeah I got mine from Canadian Tire... try to look for ones with different speeds and parts. Just wait till they have their crazy sales and pick it up then. Also don't cheap out and not get eye protection... you'll need it!

I have standard goggles. Is that good enough?

Re: Dremel

If you're using cut-off wheels, use full face shield. Them pieces hurt.

Get yourself a Diamond cutting disc. They are expensive ($26 for one), but what you will save on Cutoff wheels, it will even out. Plus you will never have it shatter in your face & it leaves a cleaner cut.

^this^

i picked mine up on sale at crappytire a few years ago.the case even came with a few different tips.the first year i went through soooooo many carbon discs, but once i upgraded to the diamond cutting disc,i haven't bought another one since.
i also don't have to worry about "shattering" discs, just flying chunks of plastic.remember the safety glasses!!you can't replace your eyes!!!

this is the exact same dremel i always use on bashes.i even used it to buck up a gijoe hiss tank to make prime, bucked up a trailer for movie 1 leader prime to make it open up,etc.

also,if you're just starting out,to save some blood,i'd also recommend a cheapo set of "chainmail" gloves, usually available at your local kitchen/chef specialty stores.

you'd be amazed at how fast 3-5 thousand rpm's can go through you
