Tired of repaints from Hasbro

I'm tired of Hasbro spending time/money making repaints instead of working on new/better molds. Even though I own repaints of some figures.... I hate that I do. I wish, with all their money and resources, we could see them focus heavily and new great looking products in attempts to drive our money back towards them and not 3rd party companies. I know they make toys for kids primarily, but we spent A LOT of money on 3rd party products that they could easily be pulling in if they'd branch out and diversify their talents...
Or maybe I'm wrong and should stop complaining?

Oh and also... stop with Bumblebees... it does't even seem like the kids give a s&%* about him as much anymore... Every TRU is all Bumblebee every peg... I wonder if retailers tell Hasbro to stop sending so much Bumblebee, they're losing money on them..

Re: Tired of repaints from Hasbro

Repaints (and retools with a new head) are part and parcel of the economics of toys nowadays. We can't escape it. Any mold has to be used for at least two character, three or four if possible.

Personally what I'm tired of are repaints that are not a new character. Cyberfire Bumblebee looks cool, so why couldn't it be actually a decepticon dude instead of another Bumblebee? Why 'Armored Topspin' and not just name him Twin Twist?

Why haven't we seen repaints of Warpath yet dangit?! Why not a nice sky-blue Generations (RiD) Armorhide?!

Where is my Movie Chromedome made out of Nitro Bumblebee?

I want all the versions of the PRID Wheeljack mold

In short, I don't mind repaints as long as they get creative with them!

Yeah, I remember when hasbro did all those 'new molds' back in the 80's. You know, before all this repaint crap.

We sure have it bad now...

That's because there already is a WFC Bumblebee Mold and i don't expect much change aside from a light color change...

wave 2 or 3 i'm calling it.

Cool Re: Tired of repaints from Hasbro

If done right, I have no problems with repaints...seekers, Prowl/Smokescreen/Blue Streak, Inferno/Grapple, etc, etc, etc.

Heck, i would not have believed it, but Generations Tracks and Wheeljack were well done repaints.

Doesn't each Minicon have at least 2 repaints? I love them. I'm sure collectors and kids love them as well.

Unless you're talking about repaints like Prime dlx "Hot Shot" and "Battle Strike Bumblebee" from the Bumblebee mold, then ok. I will agree. But Hot Shot doesn't look too bad (no, I don't have him). If you're talking about movie Bumblebee, yeah, I noticed he's like the new Batman toy with a new color and gadget for every occasion. Remember those from the 90s?

Would you be as angry if the repaints were of actually new characters that come with different accessories? (a la G1 Brawn and G1 Outback)

Re: Tired of repaints from Hasbro

Seeker repaints are kind of like an exception because in the cartoon they were literaly the same plane just a different color for the main 3. And I can accept repaints of the same mold if there's a character that's supposed to be the same mold just a different color (Sideswipe/Red Alert/Sunstreaker)... But repainting HFTD Tomahawk as Generations Springer.... STUPID...

The other side of that coin then would be $30-40 deluxe's and far fewer releases.
As said, it's part and parcel of the deal. Molds cost lots of money so more figures have to be made to get that money back. And with teh rising plastic costs, one figure no matter how popular will never recoup that cost on its own. this is why for every unique one character mold (Universe Galvatron for example) you have 2 or 3 Seeker or Sideswipe molds.

Let's face it tho.... would anyone have ever really wanted the universe galvatron mold repainted for Skullgrin or Darkmount?

i'm glad we got a new tank mold even if it was for more than one character.

that being said i only own 2 main line bee's from DOTM and they are the original and the nitro bee both diffrent molds....

Re: Tired of repaints from Hasbro

I like the Springer repaint. Tomahawk is a great design and I'd love another iteration of it (But don't want to shell out the big $$$ on Vortex or Spinister)

Ditto with Skyhammer.

So I'll join the camp of: Repaints that are of different characters, especially with a head remold, are good. Repaints that consist of 5 different versions of Bumblebee are bad.

Frankly I'm getting tempted to start using Bumblebee figures as golf-balls at this point.
