Why Gobots are cool

Looking at my Super Cykill, Super Leader-1 and Puzzler and on Ebay, I realized that Gobots are really cool figures.

1-Almost more die-cast than original Transformers
2-Oftentimes more realistic and detailed alternate modes
3-Cool names
4-A lot of chrome and rubber tires

Maybe the show wasn't as good, I don't remember much of it, but the figures were pretty cool (although sometimes floppy because of how they used die-cast). In my book, Puzzer pretty much tops all first generation combiners being all integrated. I plan on adding a few more Gobots to my collection. First in line are Staks and Bug Bite.

Hell yes Puzzler. No extra parts to lose, varied individual robot modes, tons of die-cast and a truly threatening robo-wang.

Puzzler wasn't beaten until Predaking.

Re: Why Gobots are cool

What is even cooler then Go Bots is the line it came from. Machine Robo and it's fiction during the 80s was just amazing. So awesome that even in European countries, Go Bots was a dub of the Machine Robo anime "Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos" called "Go Bots: Revenge of Cronos" (Just in it's own languages.... french, german, ect). Rom Stol (The true Optimus Prime character of the line, not Leader-1 and sadly a toy we didn't get here) is one of the most bad ass characters in anime history and recently is getting a lot of attention in the Super Robot Wars video game line. I could just go on and on about Machine Robo cause I love it so much.....

Re: Why Gobots are cool

Super Leader one is so very cool. I really felt as a kid that he was way cooler than my Skywarp and Ramjet. Why you ask? I was a messy kid and of course lost all of Ramjet's and Skywarps parts. They look kinda lame without their fists, missle launchers etc...... Leader One was great as a plane, cool as a robot and had no parts to lose.
On the flip side of that were a couple of the super class cars which had windshields instead of faces. Didn't like them at all, as well as the tank with the canon turret as a head, lame too. I just dug out Thruster One from storage a couple days ago, big but again kinda dull. Transformers won out for me because they had more personality and they likely had better marketing.

Well some favorite Go Bot exclusive toys (not ports from the Machine Robo line) were Slicks (Black exclusive), Tail Pipe (G version) and we can't forget the Go Bot Command Center.

Re: Why Gobots are cool

Mmmm... Go Bots. I have two of the japanese versions complete in styrofoam packaging. I have Leader 1 and a Lobster looking creature, both were easy to transform and a lot of fun to play with as a kid. About 2 years ago I also got my hands on a re-issue Cykill (green and black) on card and a Super Cykill for off ebay with packaging. The one thing that I always admired of Super Cykill is that the wheels didn't come off like the smaller figure.

And Cy-Kill is heavy and has rubber tires. He's like... a deluxe deluxe figure.

Re: Why Gobots are cool

I never really liked the Super Leader 1 figure that I got for my 6th birthday...something lacking. Compaired to the jetfire that I got for Christmas earlier that year it was a POS.

To me, Go Bots seemed as though it was created by a bunch of 60 year old women. With names like Baron Von Joy, Good Knight and Leader-1 it just seemed a little lame. Epseccially whe you are competing with names like Optimus Prime, Megatron, Star Scream and Sunstreaker.

Tonka should have hired better people for the job.

And don't even get started on the rock lords...

Re: Why Gobots are cool

Rock Lords were lame, I agree, but I think Super Leader-1 is a much better toy than the G1 seekers. Sleeker and more realistic jet mode, die-cast all over, no extra parts and decent robot mode. It's unfair to compare it to Jetfire which was a much bigger and more complex toy (from a different line).

I agree some of the names are pretty tacky, but I find it amusing in the long end.
