Stolen matrixes of leadership: true or false?

From an Ebay auction....

"I used the Masterpiece Prime (DVD ver.) for this one, as most of you know a common problem with this figure on store shelves was people stealing his matrix of leadership, so this one does not have his (it was already gone when I bought it), but I've seen them for sale on ebay many times if you wanted to add one to him (he displays perfectly without it though)."

Is there truth to that claim? Never read about that problem before.

Much like animated SS's with no fingers or head (seem the fingers personally) it probbly rattled loose during transit and wasn't visible in the box.

Sounds like he's justifying his missing matrix with a story. probably has happened but never heard of it.

Maybe he just didn't want to sell the Matrix with the rest of the figure.
