Wheeljaxx' Classics Liokaiser Pictorial review

So I finally got my Liokaiser. It took some time (two months, due to Wheeljaxx's family emergency taking priority)

At first glance I was a little dissapointed with the quality of craftsmanship. Things like paint chips and the paper inkjet decals sort of makes this feel like an amateur custom. The recasted parts have hundreds of air pores/holes.

I suppose im a little spoiled with high quality customs that dont have these problems.

Like this, my friend customed a macross 1/48 valk into this for me.

However regardless of Liokaiser's shortcomings, it is still a fantastic piece.

Guyhawk

Hellbat

Drillhorn (this one suffers the most due to the heavy modification)

Was the Macross Valk an action figure (chogokin?) or a model kit?

Customizing model kits and transformers are 2 totally different things, the latter being much more difficult!

The macross is a 1/48 Yamato TOY. The armor that you see is all resin. The original was made of styrene. But the one you see is like number 20 of 25. im not sure which production number it was, I have the second recast off the original, a separate set of armor. But the picture you see. Toy and armor are all custom painted.

Ah, still a model kit though. Resin kits are still easier than kitbash/modifying transformers toys.

Although that Liokaiser looks a bit different, I still have to commend on the work done on it though.

The Liokaiser is actually different from the one's I've seen Wheeljaxx made or sell the resin kit add ons. I guess this is a new version he made.

Btw, can you tell me who made that valk? I'm hoping to learn more about building mecha resin kits.

ok I think you are not understanding. The Valkyrie VF-1S, under the armor, is a mass produced toy by Yamato toys. It has been repainted. The armor that sits ONTOP of the valk is called the Thunder Hammer. Originally it was a custom for Model Graphix magazine for a 1/72 model kit. Model Graphix commissioned someone to make it and it was a feature in the magazine. That armor was custom built for the model kit.

What you see before you is a TOY. The armor was scratch built, custom for this toy. In no way is it a model kit at all. The armor was originally made out of styrene sheets of plastic and tubes along with a LOT of customization. Another friend of mine owns the original. He commissioned our mutual friend to make this toy.

I own two of these. One is a plain recast of the armor. The other one, which I posted is a whole custom paintjob toy and armor. both sets of armor are merely recasts of the original scratch built armor. I understand that I confused you by saying it is made of resin. Just like Wheeljaxx, who recasted the tank treads and drill for Drillbison. Those are just parts that were recasted from the originals. It does not make the toy a "model kit"

The armor of my custom valk can come off and on the painted valk with NO PAINT SCRATCHES.

For those interested here is the original Thunderhammer (a customed model kit).
