Edmonton meet and greet - let's plan one out!
EDIT: Current plan is to meet at 12:30 PM, Sunday, August 10, at Animethon at Grant MacEwan. Pop over to the thread in the TF General Discussion board for more info.
I mentioned this over in the Alberta sightings board - specifically, the idea of doing a "meet and greet" with the Cybertron.ca (or any fansite) members who live in the Edmonton area sometime in the near future (possibly within the next week or two)
Now, based on my own reasoning, odds are that 2 weeks from now won't work very well, as Animethon will be on that weekend and some people may be going to that (I may go down and check it out myself). Naturally, by the same token, Animethon could work for a meetup venue.
But anyway, the main thing to figure out is the WHERE and WHEN. I figure next weekend is probably as good a time as any to do one of these things - so with that in mind, when are people available to meet up then?
As for the where, I'd argue it should be as convenient as possible for as many people as possible - myself, I'm on the Southside, but I don't know where everyone else is scattered across the city. So with that in mind, does anyone have any ideas for a meetup venue?
Apologies for the rambling nature of this post - as you can tell I don't do much of this kind of stuff. But it's always great, after all, to be able to put faces and people to the usernames that post online - and often these kinds of gatherings are pretty fun.
So with that in mind, who would be available, and what would be convenient for them? Right now the vague suggestions I have for possible locations are as follows:
-Somewhere at West Ed. (dunno where though)
-Somewhere downtown
-University of Alberta -possibly somewhere in SUB.

Re: Edmonton meet and greet - let's plan one out!
Next weekend is coming up awfully fast. I could probably make it work, but it may be hard to rally enough people up by it. Plus it's obviously going to take a while to decide on a time, place, and event. To be completely honest I have no idea what we would do? Just get something to eat? Go to every Toys R Us in the city? Book a party room at Galaxyland? (the last two were kinda jokes, unless everyone actually wants to do that).

Good point... next weekend is probably a bit too quick to plan something.
I was thinking more of a "get a bite to eat and chat" type situation. I wasn't really thinking of booking anything - there's only what, 4 or 5 Edmonton fans?

I wouldn't mind doing it at WEM. Y'know, it's open, alot of stuff to do, and we can all go to Collector's Edge and laugh at them.

Heh. WEM isn't a bad idea. There's indeed stuff to do there.

Good to see you take the initiative, General!
Whether you have a separate meet or not, I strongly suggest you have a lunch meet at the Anime convention.
Just pick a time that's relatively light in the schedule and meet for a meal. Even if only 3 people meet up, then you 3 can setup the next gathering.

Re: Edmonton meet and greet - let's plan one out!
That's an idea, JLAvatron... is anyone up for a meet and greet during Animethon, at lunch sometime?
Plus, that way the TFans can crash and co-opt a panel if there's one that can be used to bring Transformers into it.
For anyone that doesn't know, Animethon is at Grant MacEwan in a couple of weeks (Aug 8-10). How's that sound for everyone?

Re: Edmonton meet and greet - let's plan one out!
Outside of this weekend coming up, I'm out of town every weekend in August :P
But don't feel obligated to delay something on my part. There will be plenty of meet ups!
P.S. Collectors Edge will defiantly need to be discussed! Make sure that is on the agenda!

Usually at the Montreal gatherings we play a TF board game; and there's a lot of good 1's now: Armada, TF Monopoly, TF Risk.
Food and group shopping for Transformers is always fun, and usually on our bill too.

Animethon sounds great. We won't stick out like a sore thumb there, and since we are in Edmonton, Grant Mac is a pretty central location for all of us.
