Hard to say... we've seen that even the hand of a dead Prime can activate the forge, so he could've been dead. I mean, I think he must have joined the Allspark since his chest opened to pass on the Matrix. I think he was dead.

Writers say a lot of things, they may have been lying, might not have planned this at the time (Hasbro kinda dictates the body upgrades right) or perhaps they don't consider being dead for 4 seconds to be death.

They should have had Smokescreen take the matrix, start to glow and upgrade, but then, now a Prime, he grabs the hammer and repairs Optimus before it's too late, and then jam the matrix back into him, returning to plain Smokescreen!

Now that would have been cooler than the magical upgrade from Primus. I mean this isn't Galaxy Force guys even if Optimus is trying his darnest to cosplay as Galaxy Convoy.

I really wish the reset button hadn't been hit so hard.

I really really really want this season to see the whole cover blown by the end! Megatron getting fed up with those pesky humans just FLYING into Washington DC with the Nemesis and his entire armada and blasting everything in sight!!! Now that would make for something exciting!

No, what would have made sense was for Megatron to have stayed dead in season 1 when he was at ground zero of his space bridge blowing the fuck up.

Honestly, this idea that they've had about the Autobots being on the downturn has gone on for too long, it's time they started to off the Decepticons and retake Cybertron.
