Not true. This movie is making substantially less in North America than previous instalments . It's big box office is almost all due to China's involvement in the filming and it's mega success there and overseas. North American audiences are clearly showing a fatigue for these movies.

I do wonder if it being shown exclusively in 3d has some affect as well. I know that was the main reason I didn't go and see it.

I saw AOE in 2D on opening weekend. It wasn't released exclusively in 3D, at least not in my market.
