Re: 25th Anniversary Optimus Prime Released at Canadian Retail

Would be great to get pictures of the 2 versions together so we can see the difference in colour.

You asked for it!

The US one is from JC Penny and the Canadian one is from Walmart. I wanted to keep both MSIB (may sell one or both later) so I only took some in packages shots under florescent lights (all taken with white-balance set to "florescent" except for the last 2):

Side by side #1 (left - US; right - Canada)

Side by side #2 (left - US; right - Canada)

US #1

Canada #1

US #2

Canada #2

US #3

Canada #3

To be honest, I can't see a big difference between the two... in fact, I will say there is none. If you look at the US packaging there are clear windows ("25") on top of the box so the inside looks a lot brighter - this could be the reason why it is easier to make out the pinkish color on the metal cab from the rest of the figure in package.

One more side by side comparison w/ auto white-balance (which seems to bring out the pink a bit better):

So, if my D70 DSLR can't see the difference may be there is none?

Great shots man!

Is it possible that the US got a correction made in mid production? The first ones to hit stores was pretty noticeable.

Could be... when I ordered mine from JC Penny during the sale it has been out for a while. Could be my Canadian one doesn't have the fix. Or, may be they are both the same The pinkish color is not very obvious from the pictures here because of the lighting but I can definitely see a different between the metal and the plastic parts on both and they all have the same level of difference in shades of red.

Like I said, the US box has more openings to let light in so it is easier to see the difference in color between the metal and the plastic parts on the cab. Things inside the Canadian packaging is a lot more crowded so it makes Prime a bit darker in shade.

Looks like the plastic parts are the same, only the metal part(difference in paint) shows a difference.
I'll stick with my open and MIMB TRU re-issues

It is very difficult to take these pics because of the packages and the lighting @ home (sorry, don't have studio lights/strobes/flashes ). To my eyes, the metal parts have the same shade of pinkish red on both Primes. Don't really want to open them so I can't take better pics of both Primes without the box.

Did you get the canadian version at the Walmart in Kanata? From the ones I saw there, they seemed to be the fixed ones.
