Exactly. It was weird and hilarious all at once. Hilarious when he finally understood what I wanted some rebate. lol. This.
What's more hilarious are allophones like myself. Although, I'm fluent in all three, I tend to mix and sometimes confuse all three. One of the accents will even come out of nowhere.
Another part of the experience, which I forgot to tell, was another seller eagerly offering his services in both languages. Both of us couldn't make up our minds which language to stick to. This is the one I'm use to dealing with. Gotta love MTL. lol Very polite and very Canadian.
Unfortunately, the wifey's an English Major and the grandmother's an English teacher. So no. I couldn't win my daughter over the mother tongue. Probably why it's called exactly that. Even at home I feel the struggle over English's dominance over the language "wars". Which is sad but I know I'll work it out. I plan on sending her back to Manila for few years. There's no way, I'll be like any other Filipino, who once moving here, forget their heritage.
While visiting BC, I wondered about turning things around. Speaking only French to them and see what other hilarious things can happen. I did pull off the Indian accent on a cashier once. She was hella confused and wondered about how in the hell this Asian dad have such a glorious accent. The wife was not amused though.
