Exclamation Help! Bathroom maintenance question

Of course this has to happen to me on a stat holiday. I'm pretty handy around the house but haven't dealt with a shower issue before. Anyone here who can comment on how easy or difficult this might be to fix myself? Home Depot/Hardware is closed today. Bascially the shower control snapped as I turned it this morning. It felt very tight the last two days. I haven't opened anything up yet. Thanks for any advice!

Re: Help! Bathroom maintenance question

I'm not a plumber and only do little jobs around the house. Haven't had to do a shower control yet.

But I'd suggest Youtube to get an idea of what you can do.

Usually where I go to first to get an idea of what I'm dealing with

Seconded on head to YouTube: that's what I'd do in the same scenario. Videos on there have saved me countless service calls and repairs.

Re: Help! Bathroom maintenance question

Thanks guys, that was good advice. I now know what I'm dealing with and the solution. The shower cartridge will need replacing and is likely stuck inside the fitting. The trick is getting it out all in one piece with the sleeve. If the sleeve stays inside then it becomes more complicated. I've got what I need for worst case scenario situation of the sleeve getting stuck inside. That is my project for tonight.

Well I got it sorted out. Turns out it was worse than the worst case scenario. Anyways, I now have a running shower. If anyone encounters this and needs some advice, let me know.

i've encountered running showers a few times but always knew what to do, dealt with a hot/cold shower control too, but mine blew right off and pretty much pinned my girlfriend against the far wall of the bath with a considerable stream of water. it was loud, wet and flooded the downstairs tenant's condo. also took a couple days to find the cat.
