Re: 2012 TFCon Charity Project

OK, folks, Rattrap is pretty much finished but I wanted to get some pics up so I can get some constructive criticism before I slap on the clear coat.

My main concern is the yellow I put on his chest plate. I felt that he really needed something to break up the gray and tan (I based the colours and placement on his original toy), and I figured it might work since Rattrap had a yellow patch on his left breast in his transmetal form.

I haven't transformed him yet (wanna give the paint lots of time to cure and dry), but I've put some details to try and make the bike look more like his beast mode. Yellow to look like eyes, black to look like a nose...

And I'm playing around with these little guys. They're going to try and serve as Rattrap's detonation charges. They tab right into the spaces between his legs and the 3mm bars for storage.

So let me know what you guys think. I'll be sure to take your opinions into account when I apply some touch ups and start to get some clear coat on him.

They colors look good. Maybe a little more brown on the bottom of his legs, maybe make the feet and the circle detail brown too. A black wash will really bring out the details witout adding any more color.

Good stuff!

Thanks for the suggestions, racerguy. I'll look into adding some more brown. I'm iffy of a wash, though. I've never been able to have a wash turn out as anything other than a mess.

Re: 2012 TFCon Charity Project

I always practice on a junker before I do the wash on any bot. A real thin brush dipped in wash then run along the edges, or in detail lines on panels. It requires a steady hand and can be time consuming, but it's quite simple to do. I suggest the games worshop washes as they are water based. Any mistakes can be cleaned up quickly and easily with water. If I can find some time this week, I'll do a mini tutorial for ya.
