Customizable Kreons, where do they fit into a collection?

So I recently bought three of the new custom Kreons to see what they were like. I find these toys kind of frustrating and I wondered what others thought.

They seem like a good idea, an expansion on the Kreon microfigure that everyone likes. This time around you make them look like your favorite version of the character, what could go wrong?

Well on the plus side I do like the new detailing on the face and chest of the figures. That’s about it though. They come with accessories which don’t really suit the character (what does Soundwave need arm blasters for?), and the colours are off. I suppose it might be cool to give Megatron a more purple look, and make him a step between Megatron and Galvatron, but really why, Megatron is gun metal grey for a reason. The best use I can find for them is to take my original Kreons and swap the new face and chest to get a better looking Kreon, and then put 95% of the stuff which comes with the customizable Kreon into storage.

Am I missing something? I usually appreciate toys (good and bad) for what they are and don’t like to complain about them, but these confuse me.

I agree. I've used my customizable Starscream to create Ghost Starscream and plan to switch parts for others like you have mentioned.

They were dirt cheap during the sale so I nabbed them just because I liked the "weapons rack" accessory. Honestly, like others have said, the bits are good for upgrading the more accurate (well... Kreon accurate) coloured figures.

I most likely would have passed on them if I'd have had to pay full retail but the different versions are nice if you are a Kreon completist.

Starscream comes with a mini Megatron gun which is nice.

This is how I perceive it.

They're not there to fill in gaps of your Kre-o Collection but to work in tandem with it.

It offers you an Ironhide that is a much cheaper solution than buying the Devastator set.

It offers multiple bits and pieces to swap with existing Kreon. For example, I swaped Bee's legs with the original Bee to get that VW foot look.

The giant guns were used for my Combiners or the characters that are meant to be bigger "Brawl, Lugnut, etc".

Chrome swords for the Predacons.

When the custom Galvatron is released, swap his helmet for the original to get a pretty G1 Galvy.

Y'know? Use your imagination, it's a fun concept.

Yes, fair enough. Perhaps this just means I'm getting old and need to learn how to think like a kid again!

I still stand by the "I'll wait for them to shelf warm" and then maybe get one...but in my complete lack of interest in these I didn't not realize you could make a ghost starscream.

I will get that one and hound now for sure.

Sort of but the "inner" head, crotch/pants and the arms are not translucent.
