A different kind of Transformer

Remember how Punch and Counterpunch shared the same alt mode? That's dumb. But how about a robot that would only turn into a completely different robot, no alt mode? That or 2 vastly different robot and alt modes (not like Animated Longarm/Shockwave, they were way too close). Wouldn't that be more effective?

Re: A different kind of Transformer

The would be awesome. Unlikely to ever see something like that in a main line but I bet an ambitious 3rd party could put something together. Might end up fiddly as heck, or partsformer, but neither of those bother me. If you look at figures like Hexatron who have multiple alt modes, all they would have to do is try to figure out a way to have a second bot mode, and then you have vastly different alt modes jets, tanks, apcs, wolf, gun, the only thing similar is the color scheme which I'm sure someone could figure out a way to make the colors different too.

Hasbro had plans for some figures kinda like this years ago but they couldn't make it work. It would have been figures of G1 robots transforming into their movie counterparts.

Not quite what the OP had in mind maybe, but the changing into cybertronian modes would be sweet. Also, could sell morevof the same guy. I.e.1 Cybertronian mode Jazz changes ti cybertronian alt. mode, 2nd changes ti earth rien Jazz, 3rd earth form Jazz changes ti earth bases alt. mode

Haven't we seen prototype pictures or something? I seem to recall the concept.

How about non-traditional altmodes? Like MMC's Anarchus. Turns into an electric chair!
And it's pretty sweet in that mode.

Re: A different kind of Transformer

I had an idea for a groupnof john deere tractor bots that all had identical alt modes but transformed entirely differently in robot mode. Example: one would have the tractor big wheels as shoulder picots with arms coming out of them and another would use those same wheels expanded into leg limbs and a third would have the wheels compress and collapse into the main torso and be entirely hidden.
The result would be similar to prime cliffjumper that came out with two very different robot modes but identical car modes.
What are your thoughts on an idea like that.
Tractorcon squadron. Third party company could be founded called DeareJohn.
