Re: must haves for a classic collection

It really all depends on your personal preference, I am aiming to have an entire Classics/Universe/Generations collection in time with onyl the re-packaged Armada/Energon/Cybertron molds that aren't repaints omited and a few other non-essential figures.

What I consider as a 'Must Have' Display however is the following.

Autobots:
Optimus Prime (Voyager)
Ultra Magnus w/City Commander Add-On
Jetfire
Inferno
Solar Storm Grapple
Silverbolt
Powerglide
Autobot Countdown
Hardhead
Treadbolt
Leo Prime
Autobot Blades
Autobot Blaster/Blockrock
Vector Prime/Safeguard
Sea Spray
Bumblebee
Cliffjumper
Ironhide
Autobot Ratchet
Silverstreak
Prowl
Sideswipe
Sunstreaker
Autobot Hound/Ravage
Mirage
Wheeljack
Special Ops Jazz
Grimlock
Smokescreen
Turbo Tracks
Red Alert
Perceptor
Warpath
Rodimus
Blurr
Sergeant Kup
Wreck-Gar
Scrap Heap
Junkheap
Hot Shot/Jolt
Cheetor
Windcharger
Breacher
Autobot Cosmos
Autobot Wheelie
Beachcomber
Brawn

Decepticons:
Megatron Voyager
Lugnut
Nemesis Prime
Heavy Load/Drill Bit
Decepticon Dropshot
Decepticon Bludgeon
Onslaught
Darkwind
Storm Cloud
Predacon Bruticus
Starscream
Skywarp
Thundercracker
Acid Storm
Thrust
Dirge
Ramjet
Astrotrain
Tankor
Galvatron
Cyclonus/Nightstick
Scourge
Darkmount
Skullgrin
Thunderwing
Sky Shadow
Dinobot
Decepticon Drag Strip SE Deluxe
Overkill SE Deluxe
Henkei Stuntron Wildrider
Ratbat Deluxe 2-Pack
Chopsaw

Other products are optional, personally though this would be the ideal display as it would feature all of the re-imagined G1 characters, even if they are just repaints, and it would give an opportunity to pad out the ranks a bit with other characters.

You may only want the G1 characters though, so anything not G1 can safely be ignored if you prefer. WFC Soundwave would be on the list if not for two things, one I don't have him yet and two I consider him part of the WFC sub-line of the whole Classicverse thing. So I consider him to be not the 'main' representation of the character, but an alternate body. I'm confident that Hasbro will make a ruddy modern era G1 Soundwave even if his alternate mode is different for the Generations line.

Re: must haves for a classic collection

Pretty much all the TFs in the G1 cartoon have been made into toys and also some comic ones like Thunderwing, Straxus, Drift, etc. So, IMO it's all the ones you know and love that have been made into toys (see the many lists above) minus repaints i.e. Storm Cloud: repaint of Universe Powerglide. I'm biased against repaints in general (Unless it's a seeker or BB/CJ thing. Sometimes that's okay).

I just can't bring myself to pay $50 + shipped for a voyager figure...especially when I don't overly care for that mold. I think the wind vane thing looks stupid imo.

He is a little pricey, especially Ultra Magnus. But I just loved that mold of him. Especially with the G3 trailer attached and the extra weapons it comes with for the other Classic figs.

Re: must haves for a classic collection

My personal centerpiece is Classics Rodimus with the Protector Armor. I also love my ragtag group of Decepticons with Thunderwing, Fracture, Skullgrin, Straxus, Lugnut and Lockdon. Would be an amazing team.
