Guys there are several sub-questions to the question "can we return 2 and keep 1 at the 2/3 price?":

1) what does the TRU computer say? While we know it prints the receipt as 3 items 33% off each, we don't know what the computer might say when a return is attempted. They scan the receipt and the computer may flag it to the CSR or block it, demanding it process as a return and rebuy full price.

2) what the CSR might do: maybe the computer flags it. Maybe they notice it themselves. Either way the CSR and/or manager could deny the return outside of returning all three.

3) whether it is "morally" right or not to skirt the intention of the coupon/offer, regardless of whether the computer or CSR allows it.

I think different folks are arguing different aspects here...

That code listed after the 3 items with a 0.01/0.00 value, 990003, it's there for a reason. It's the code that flags the B2G1. Each coupon has its unique code. The computer won't let you get away with a 33% off toy if you don't meet the requirements of the code anymore.

How does the attached gift receipts work then? First return gets $0, since was "free". Second and third return get full values?

If you want to be immoral, buy 3 Tryps and return 2 (sans receipt) to Walmart.
You end up with a free Trypticon and some loaded WallyMart gift cards.

Isn't this similar to buying over $49 on-line to get free shipping? If you later return one item, you fall under the threshold, but they don't slap on shipping charges.

I think they divide the total price by 3 so that if you get gift receipts they can give credit back. I don't think they expect someone buying 3 of the same thing to keep them together forever, so they price it that way expecting returns as a possibility. It's just like Prime Sinister said with free shipping they expect you to add on stuff that you wouldn't of bought otherwise and if you change your mind you still get the free shipping. It's a way of them moving more inventory than they would of without the promo even if a large percentage end up being returned, they still end up with more sales.

Again, the receipt has the 900003 code on it to flag the B2G1 offer. Computer will catch it to cancel the deal.

Guys I bought 3x wave 5 deluxes each at $19.99. On the receipt there is 3 lines and an extra column that is always there that says valeur de remboursement. My deluxes end up coming to 33% off ($13.33 each) cause you "get 1 free"... If I choose to return one or 2 of those items or even 3 of those items they reimburse what is listed in the "valeur de remboursement" plus the taxes...

Oh I forgot to mention in the fine print there is nothing listed about the reimbursement of the deal price. The coupon applies at the time of purchase, INSTORE, specifically for the Buy 2 Get 1 free coupon... Buying from TRU allows a consumer to return any item to the store within 45 days... returning the 1 or 2 other items doesn't cancel the aforementioned deal at time of purchase.

Also the reason it IS done this way is because when you're returning the 2 other items, they can't cancel the deal because if they did, they would have to return all 3 items and then recharge you the 3rd item at full price but they can't do that because you're not returning the 3rd item...

Ok say you return the 2x $39.99 items... you will be reimbursed $27.69 and $27.68 plus the taxes... It's basically as if you got a 30.76% off each item
