Question. What do you guys use as far as lighting?
For me it depends. Generally 3 lights with umbrellas. Digital backgrounds add a bit more light. Thanks to RaidensOP I started turning off the overhead lights a couple months ago and made a big difference.

I used led lights from Amazon.

The key is to diffuse the heck out of them so the lighting isn't harsh. Just like wervenom said umbrellas are great at diffusing

Cool Re: 2020 post your transformer photos here.

I gotta try those LED lights. Except, all I have for a camera is a point-and-shoot, not a DSLR.

Well, in my case, it depends on what effect I want to have for the subject. Because I don't have much in the way of great lighting options (yet), I try to take advantage of the natural and/or ambient light, plus whatever house lighting I have available. But sometimes, a subject might require different and/or creative ideas.

In this example - where Ironhide is channeling the movie Predator - I hope for dry weather with just the right amount of sunlight.

With this one - Trypticon inspired by Mechagojira - I just used the B/W monochrome filter on my camera, and just one candle for lighting.

And there's this rare example featuring Holo-Mirage, using a light to illuminate his almost-entirely translucent body. A few people who've seen this thought it was an ice sculpture.

I'm still learning stuff as I go along, also while observing the better work I see in the TF photo threads, often thinking, "Damn, that looks cool," or "$#!+, I wish I had thought of that one."

Proper lighting makes huge difference. Just go buy a LED and play around.

Thanks guys.

I might also try the LED lights. Affordable and compact vs the umbrellas
