You guys are all giving Michael Bay way too much credit. There will likely be absolutely no explanation as to where Galvatron went after his defeat with his "I'll get you next time Gadget" exit.
My guess is, Optimus is going to land on Cybertron and Megatron will be standing there and the only explanation will be something like "Megatron cannot be killed"
As for how this thing looks, it's like Ultron mated with the giant Harvester from Terminator Salvation just for size. Anyone else remember Bay making fun of that robot at the time?
The question is, what if anything does that thing turn into?

Yes and no...
Movie 1: both of arms had to merge to transform into a cannon... not really G1.
ROTF: his entire arm was a cannon. So again, not really G1.
DOTM: the toy had one, but his movie self didn't, he just used a gun.

I don't remember 2, but in 1 it was like his two arms merged together to make a tentacle boom stick, and in 3 he just had a regular boom stick that he pulled out of his garbage hoodie trash tarp. All I remember from 2 was the toy looked like a green hamburger with wings and tank treads. Man...I miss that toy. Think I need to track me down a Voyager ROTF Megs now, lol

Certainly looks like he has Knight armor on, like the Battle Axe, but doesn't he use a mace??
