Megatron 86 Movie

I was watching the Movie yesterday, and got me thinking...(I know, I know it's an 80's toy movie), but let's say for instance, Soundwave ignored Megatron, when he asked him not too leave him behind, would Ultra Magnus do what Optimus wasn't able to do?

Nah, they would have arrested him and made stand trail for his crimes against the galaxy. Then he would have escaped and continued to do what Megatron does.

I just watched that again a few days back with my son. One thing I don't understand why Ultra Magnus was blew to pieces can still live while Optimus Prime just die like that?

It's the aeris effect from final fantasy 7. Sephiroth stabbed her when someone could have thrown a Phoenix down.

The original storyboard had Ultra Magnus being quartered by the four sweeps. They changed it at the last minute to it being Ultra Magnus just falling over and blowing up though.
