@GDkitty,make sure you remove all the pot metal parts and basically anything metal as it corrodes/oxidizes them.
iirc,g1 jetfires main parts that can't go in are his landing gear that smashes thumbs,the main crotch piece that hold both legs to his fusalage and all of his black screws.if you put those in,they won't be black anymore.
also,keep in mind that the black and red glossy paint may "dull" itself if you're not patient.
patient meaning put those pieces in for a few hours,remove,wash with dish soap,repeat until you get the desired whitening effect.just don't leave the painted parts in there for more than 5-6 hours as it will soften the paint.the stock paint will reharden on it's own,but be careful regardless when you scrub him down to remove the residues.....patience is key

for the decals,to remove frustration,it may be easier to just remove them altogether and hit up reprolabels.nothings worse than a brand new shiny white bot with shoddy decals

thanks guys, your info has been a great help.. i'll have to see what other ones i have to test with.. (even if just small bot i can throw in without disassembling :P)

I may leave it till spring/summer when we have more light as well (dont antyhing artificial to do it with inside, and its a little cold to put it outside right now :P)

Anything you throw in that has metal, even if it is just a single screw, pin, or rivet, will rust rather horribly and quickly. So I would recommend always disassembling, even small bots, so the screws don't corrode.

eh, i got a couple of gobots i dont care much about that are broken.. so could care less, but good test fodder.

I noticed the chrome on Ratchet came out w/o any damage, has anyone else had success with chrome remaining intact. I am about to join the party with some trypticon parts, including his shoulder pieces, which of course have chrome. I tried to remove the chrome half of it but cannot get it off, so was hoping just putting the whole piece in would be safe.

It should be okay as long as you don't over do it. Keep a close eye on the pieces and remove them and wash them as soon as you achieve the result your looking for.

The Trypticon restoration is under way. Fully dismantled at this point, all the purple, grey and green pieces are getting the bath. The grey, although mildly yellowed, is not really noticeable, will not go in the bath. I unfortunately did not take any b4 pics, but will post the after shots. The grey parts were a mild brown, the purple was a much darker purple and the green, also much darker.

So after 4 hours in todays sun, there is a mild improvement. Since the sun is setting now I have placed it under a lamp for the evening and will put it back out in the tomorrow morn.

Can't wait for the finished product!

Ok, Trypticon Update 1:

I have some finished light grey bits, with the untreated neck plate

And some purple bits, which is where I am concerned. The ramp piece, as you can see has lightened maybe too much?

The yellowing is out, but not it seems to have gone too light, yet the original purple is still exactly the same. Should it have gone this light, or perhaps it needs more treatment?
Suggestions?

I've given up on using Hydrogen Peroxide on coloured (e.g. purple) pieces - they always go too light on me (faded) and you can't bring them back - in my experience.

Bummer, I'll stop where I am then. I was going to do the green but not if it will turn out the same.
