I know it's already Wednesday, but I've finally got the chance to get back in the swing of things. Here we go <deep breath>
First off, GINORMOUS thanks to all the amazing staff and volunteers who worked their butts off to make this crazy weekend possible. Seen a lot of familiar faces around: Danial/Proto, Ian (sorry I botched your name!), CJ, GMFan, and yes...even Guber. My apologies if I'm leaving out tons of people since I'm still slowly getting to know more of y'all. From a famous Simpsons song: "A stranger's just a friend you haven't met!"
Shout out to my fellow attendees: Rob (Sureshot22), Matt (Matrix Holder), Steve (EchoTransformer), Ninjatron (getting bounced by us AGAIN at Faction Feud! More on that later), Eric (Slayback aka awesomest dealer), my brothers in arms
TEAM FURMANISMS (Cam, James, our newest recruit Matt #2): couldn't defend that title and lost in the final round by
one question! Next year fellas, we're taking it!! [again, apologies for any names I missed, like Metroplex79] And now onto the con itself. Highlights:
Dealer room
Completely overwhelmed the senses, still as crazy as ever. This was my fiancee's first TFCon (she was out of town last year) so she didn't know what to expect. Needless to say she was floored. Some great deals here and there, others not-so-much (G1s are going for how much now?!!).
Panels
As great and entertaining as ever. The low-key Derrick Wyatt one on Sunday was an absolute hidden gem. A shame so many people missed out.
But the belle of the ball goes to...
Third Party Panel (@ 3pm)
The room was packed, with good reason. Tons of fantastic 3P stuff in the pipleline. A HUGE Overloard in the works? MMC Sixshot and Predaking? Guess that wedding will have to wait!
And of course you heard the collective "oohs & aahs" in the room as all the blood rushed to our respective nerd-boners (and, um...nerd-female parts too) with FansProject's many reveals. Thanks again FP!! As usual you guys rock and show that you truly live by your motto "By fans, FOR fans!"
Faction Feud
I told my fiancee about (winning) this last year, and she was looking forward to FF more than anything. And it did not disappoint, not by a longshot.
For anyone else who was in attendance: my sincerest apologies to
Vangelus' mom. Who knew it would become the go-to answer that night for anyone stumped on a question?
Much respect to all my oppenents: the constantly trash-talking Ninja Consultants, where we somehow out-witted you in a gong-show of a first round. The drunkards (sorry forgot your team name) and their hilarious non-stop Tony Danza impressions who pretended not to know any trivia but almost hustled us!
And of course Team Superlink, the eventual champions. We put up a good fight, but went down in the finals by the slimmest of margins. Full credit tho as you showed you were the better team that day, we'll be ready for you next year!!!
This was my fourth TFCon, and as cliche as it sounds, it gets better. EVERY. SINGLE. DAMN. YEAR. I genuinely mean that.
For TFCon 2013 I'll do my best to be more social. Had to duck out early Friday (met up w/ other friends elsewhere) and Saturday night (just waaay to tired, definitely thinking about getting a room next year even though I'm within driving distance).
Til next year!
