Re: Walmart to buy 13 Target Canada stores

It's another small step, 15 old Target locations claimed, 108 to go.

Let's see if Metro, HBC, and Goodlife Fitness will step up.

Who else would benefit from the old Target locations?

Yeah, I say HBC should bring back Zellers on more limited basis than before. For instance one or two Zellers in Winnipeg would make them destination spots for people, as opposed to the 8 they had before.

The Guelph one is a good fit, they don't have one that side of town if I recall.

There's actually one here in GTA, but it's used as HBC's clearance centre filled with couches and large appliances but labeled as Zellers.

Apparently they still have two they use as Liquidation centers, thus they never dropped the branding. Easier for a come back

Wasn't the Zellers stores losing money before they sold out to Target?

Zellers as a corporate entity was, but they did have stores that were still turning a profit individually - just not as many as the ones that were losing money.

Given that they still have their distribution channels in place for the Bay, Home Outfitters and more of their individual store brands I don't think it would be a stretch.

HBC was even mentioned in news articles over the last year as being interested some of the Target properties/building that were closing down.
